PHILOSOPHY

Those who wish to sing always find a song.”

— Swedish proverb

It is joy that underscores and infuses my desire to teach voice.  I believe that singing can provide untold joy for the performer and their audience. It is a constant in my vocal life and one I hope to inspire in others.  Let’s consider different aspects of this joy:

Joy in watching an aspiring singer conquer a seemly abstract concept of vocal production and converting that concept into an organic process that the body can dutifully replicate.

Joy in helping a singer to discover the beauty of their unique instrument.

Joy in fostering a technique that becomes the foundation for the performer to communicate their art.

Joy in developing the understanding within the performer of the profound gift they possess and the joy it can bring to themselves and especially to their audience.

Although I have described the joys I receive from teaching, I hope that the vocal journey described above provides a lifetime of joy to the student.
